Energy & Chemical Plant:
Two meetings have now been held to progress the first stage of the review process and minutes of these meetings are on our website. Follow up work as a result of these meetings is in progress with a further meeting scheduled on the 9th of November with the Petrochemical Industry Advisory Group to consider specialist strands. A meeting with the Department of Labour and Inspection Body is also being scheduled for November. Following these meetings, a report will be developed which will outline the newly proposed Energy and Chemical Plant Qualifications, including career and employment pathways. This report will be placed on the website for wider industry consultation (as well as emailing to stakeholders) and feedback. Once wider consultation has been completed and feedback considered, the final report will be sent out. An NZQA  form – Involvement in Pre-Development Stage Stakeholder Attestation will need to be completed by Stakeholders, confirming support for the proposed qualifications. These forms will be submitted to NZQA with our report along with any other relevant documentation. Once approval from NZQA has been received, Stage Two of the development process will commence.

Gas Industry Forum

EXITO sponsored the Gas Industry forum in Taupo last month, hosted by the LPG Association, the Gas Association of New Zealand (GANZ) and the New Zealand Institution of Gas Engineers (NZIGE). EXITO Board Member, Don Elers, was on hand to present the first ever National Certificate achieved in Gas Marketing, Business and Administration (Customer Support) to Wahnita Batt of Genesis Energy.  Six employees of Electrix were also present to receive the first ever certificates achieved in Gas Network Operations (Gas Pressure Control).

A presentation by EXITO’s Marketing & Communications Manager, Phillippa Boa, provided an overview of industry training in the Gas sector, including the introduction of a new service delivery model.  Maria Grant and David Johnson, EXITO’s Oil & Gas Training Advisors were also in attendance to promote the range of qualifications available for the gas industry.

Peter Thorley from Vector won the business card draw.

Verification Assessment Pilot

One of the outcomes of EXITO’s new service delivery model is the introduction of a pilot Verification Assessment process. Verification Assessment (VA) is an alternative assessment pathway which provides an efficient method of quality assessment practice for specific unit standards. Learning for these unit standards is typically achieved on-job, and generates naturally occurring evidence which lends itself well to this type of process. We have already sent out VA forms to a number of companies engaged in training, and will continue with this process over the coming weeks. As this is a pilot to help trainees with unit standard achievement, there is no charge for this assessment, so this initiative is an ideal opportunity for companies to get some recognition for employee skills and knowledge gained on-job. If you have any questions or would like to learn more about this process, please contact yourTraining Advisor.
